One of those things which went wrong

Back in those days while I was in school, I had a very good image of being a good, hardworking chap among my teachers. (Don't know exactly how I earned it). Every now and then, when a teacher wants to find a role model for my classmates, I was always there to make my buddies go mad at me.
This one day, one of our school teachers was pretty lazy to take class and so decided to put up a reading session for all of us. I started to sleep with my eyes open just as I used to do each day in school.
Everyone was busy doing some chit-chat and the guy called principal comes to check up if teachers are doing their job properly. And this particular teacher, just to impress her boss started asking everyone questions about the subject. She was making guys to stand up on the bench , whoever doesn't answer her questions (for those who don't know, standing up on bench was considered as a punishment and students feel pretty ashamed of it).

I had a good reputation at not being asked questions. This was due to the confidence they had on me that I would eventually answer it (I really don't know how I managed this one. May be I was never asked a question. And this good boy image might have added some value in this aspect too. I loved my school for this). This teacher looked at me while I was staring at the book (I was in deep sleep) and she said to everyone
"Look at this guy, look at how deeply focussed he is, on learning something. Try to follow him in this aspect !!"
I suddenly woke up realising that something good was being said about me. I looked around the guys who were standing and felt pretty proud of myself that my antics (you know, this image thing that I made up) worked out.
One of the guys became pretty furious with the unfair treatment he got, he raised his voice. He asked the teacher to ask me a question too. She was a bit reluctant. Notwithstanding the pressure from other guys too, she finally asked me a question.
The question she asked, was pretty easy and everyone else standing might have answered that one.
I didn't.
